Variety of Competitions or Classes Approved for Points:

Official Performance Record:

Through SAC, ASHA is committed to record the performance of your registered Shire or Shire Sport Horse, when it performs in an activity outside of the breed sanctioned approved shows/ classes.  For your performances you are given points that are recorded on your horse’s official lifetime performance record.  Annual and lifetime SAC leaders in each category are listed each year in the official ASHA news letter and on the ASHA web site.

Points are then totaled, with the top ten in each category and division printed in the show results portion of the newsletter each winter.  Points are earned as a lifetime total for each horse. As points are totaled, horses earning substantial points are eligible for awards and Shire of Merit (SOM) certificates in the categories that the points are won in. Shire of Merit (SOM) categories are as follows:
Bronze SOM: 100 Pts - Certificate
Silver SOM: 250 pts – Certificate and Award

Gold SOM: 500 pts- Certificate and Award

Diamond SOM: 750 pts- Certificate and Award

Platinum SOM: 1000 pts- Certificate and Award

Points System for Tabulating SAC Points:

Single horses in a class of any size, including just one in a class, are awarded show-points based on their placing. The number of animals (entries) in a class becomes the total number of show-points 1st place gets. 2nd place would get the number below that and so on. A class of 7 would offer 7 show-points to first place, 6 points to 2nd and 5 points to 3rd, etc.

In the multiple hitch classes, where horse are show from team to 8 horse hitches, points will be tabulated by the number of entries or units (not number of horses). For example: you are showing your six horse hitch at Calgary.  There are 7 units or entries. Therefore first place will be 7 points, 2nd place would be 6, 3rd would be 5 etc. Each horse in the hitch nominated that year for the sac program would receive the total points – so if you won 2nd place in the example above each horse in the team that is nominated with the SAC program would get 6 points towards the multiple hitch class category.

Points are only awarded in the approved class categories listed above. Classes such as Best of Breed, Best State Bred, Supreme and any other class not listed above should show as usual, but no points will be awarded in those classes.

SAC participants will submit show results form to the SAC secretary within 30 days of the show and the points will be updated as they are recorded.  No corrections will be made after 90 days from the recording date, all verifications or concerns must be addressed before those 90 days. If a horse is disqualified from its class, the points are calculated as if the horse wasn’t there and the other horses in that class are bumped up in points. Points travel with the sale of horse; data such as ownership will be taken from ASHA’s studbook.

Any fraudulent behaviors will result in termination of the member from the SAC Program permanently.  All awards and points will be stripped from the horse(s) in question. Said horse(s) in question may earn points in the future under new ownership.

The SAC Secretary will send annual reports for points earned to the participants each year with the certificates / awards won.  These reports will let owners see where they are in each category and have an idea of where they are in points. Reports may be emailed, and posted on the official SAC web page on the ASHA site.
