I was born and raised on a sheep ranch west of Circle, Montana. My interest in art began at an early age. Before starting country school, I drew and painted scenery and animals that I loved. A variety of surfaces were receptive to my art...if it didn't move, it was fair game! The walls of buildings, any sort of paper, cement floors, pieces of wood, sandrock hills, and most of all, rocks, were my natural "canvases". Later, living and working on the ranch, raising sheep, training horses, watching wildlife during the changing seasons, I learned the colors of the prairie and gained a deep understanding of animal anatomy and behavior.
Today I am known as Montana Sandstone Artist, following my passion for painting on sandstone which I find on the home ranch. Before beginning a rock painting, I test the stone for strength. When sure it is durable and lasting, I study its shape, surface characteristics, and color to find a potential scene and mood. Sketching with pencil directly on the stone's surface starts my process of finding a 'vision' in the stone. Using brushes and acrylic paint, I work for hours, days, or weeks until the 'vision' comes to life as a Rock Painting. Each is original with realism and authority.
Art shows my husband Russell and I attend and exhibit at are the C.M. Russell Art Auction in Great Falls, Montana, the Wild Bunch Art Show in Glasgow, Montana, and a few local Art Shows. I've done numerous Quick Draws, People's Choice and Best Of Show are some of the awards I have won over the years.
