The installation of the Kiwanis Group Use Shelter was made possible by a partnership between Friends of Makoshika, Montana State Parks, Travel Montana's Tourism Infrastructure Improvement Program (TIIP), the Friends of Cherry Creek, and the Glendive Kiwanis.  Sixty thousand dollars in grants and in-kind contributions provided the core funding for the project.  Subsequent improvements, including electrical service and a modern vault toilet, have contributed to the shelter as being an outstanding addition to the park's infrastructure.
The 30 foot by 60 foot shelter is open to the public for picnicking and rest, and can be reserved for special occasions, such as a wedding reception or family reunion.  Located one-half mile from both the visitor center and Cains Coulee campground, the shelter is perfectly situated to provide recreational enjoyment to the park's visitors.
