Big Sky Shires is proud to offer basic stallion management services for stallion owners. We strive to provide a safe and affordable program to help you collect and manage your stallion and his shipped cooled semen career. Each stallion collected and shipped by Big Sky Shires & Equine Services is required to pass rigorous health requirements. This is to ensure safe and viable products to our mare owners and breeders.

with Big Sky Shires & Equine Services are required:
Currently our stallion station is not able to
house full time resident stallions. We are in the process of getting facilities
put in place for this project (to see our current facilities and lab look at our
Facilities Page). However, we can assist with
haul in situations at this time. We do have facilities for mares that are being
sent in and can provide the mare management services as listed on our
Mare Management Page. Our daily routine reflects our priority of safety and the well-being of each stallion under our management. We recommend that all stallions be handled and cared for in a manner that will keep them in peak breeding and physical condition so they can reach their full potential. Spacious stalls or turn out, with the option of daily turnout in large individual paddocks/ pastures, custom feed programs and daily grooming are some of the basic recommendations we have for our stallion owners. While your stallion is with us we do our best to ensure your stallion is at his best. If you have questions on your stallion and his care we can assist you. Through the whole process we will keep in contact with you and keep you informed of the status of your stallion. With that said we also will be here to help you in the event your stallion needs further reproductive care and we can assist in helping you get him to the proper reproductive Veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment. Big Sky Shires & Equine Service's professional staff is dedicated to customer service and will represent each stallion to mare owners and assist throughout the entire breeding process. Questions about our stallion management are always welcome at any time.Services Offered: (Check back often- as we grow these will change) ~Training to Phantom: A phantom is an inanimate object that a stallion mounts so semen may be collected by directing the stallion into an artificial vagina. By utilizing this, you eliminate the need for a mare in season. It also reduces the potential for injury and disease transmission inherent in live cover breedings. Most stallions can be trained to use the phantom within a one week period. When adequately trained, stallions retain what they’ve learned so at any point in the future a phantom can be used without hesitation ~Haul-in Semen Collection and Shipments by Appointment: Offered to stallion owners who live within a few hours and prefer to keep their stallion at home, but want the best in equine reproduction services that Big Sky Shires & Equine Services provides. ~Semen evaluation & test cooling: We will collect your stallion and test cool with 1 extenders for the basic rate. If you desire or need additional extenders we can do so at an additional rate as more collections are needed. ** Remember not every stallion is a candidate to shipped cooled semen- proper testing is needed to determine if he will make a shipped cooled candidate.
