~ BUMP-N-RUNS ~

The '74 Chevy ready for the 2003 season - May 2003

Used in 2004 also.

Here in Eastern Montana we have our own version of racing.  Since we all can't be real Nascar drivers, we have races called Bump-N-Runs.  We have been racing for the past six years.  It consists of taking an old car and stripping it of everything.  You have to put in a roll cage, and follow the many rules that the association requires.   You get the engine running fast, and race around a dirt track that has bumps, turns, jumps, sand pits, and water holes.  You can bump a driver in front of you to get them out of the way.  They have heats and if you place in the top, then you move into the A Main, if you place lower you get put in the B or C Main.  If you come back to win you can then either take the money or move up to be in the A Main event in which the top drivers from each heat are in.  It is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work.

We travel many miles around the state to get to various tracks.  In the 2003 season we traveled over 4,500 miles. Also points are given at every race, and at the end of the year they give prizes for finishing high in points.   In 2003 Dyke finished second in the overall points in the MT Bump-N-Run Association.  He had a great year with 12 top 10 finishes and 7 top 5 finishes in the 15 main events.  Dyke came back in 2004 to win the overall state points championship.  For this he received a coat, trophy, and money.  Dyke had Five A Main Championships and placed in the top 5 of the A Main 12 out of the 13 races.  Way to go Dyke!  Misti drives the car in the powder puff races.  In 2004 she went undefeated winning first in all 5 races she was in.

Dyke built a new car for the 2003 season.  It is a 1974 Chevy sponsored by Fidelity Oil and Exploration Company.  Misti had her first race in Glendive in 2000.  She was in 3rd place until she bumped into someone and then flipped over, ending  up-side-down.  She was ok, but a little bit sore for a few days!   In September 2003, Misti was in the lead the entire race and in the last turn to the finish, was bumped from behind and rolled it again, ending upside down again!  She was ok, but very upset to not win the race!  Dyke took his first roll in August 2004 with one lap to go in the A Main and in second place.  There was a lot of fire, but luckily Dyke was able to get it repaired to race at the Montana Fair at the Billings Metra the next day!

For a schedule and for more information on Bump-N-Run races check out yellowstoneracing.com.  We are driving the same car in 2004 as we did in 2003.  Dyke also got a matching modified car ready for the July 4th, 2004 race.  It will eventually become Misti's limited car to race with the guys when she decides to.  As you can see by the car, we are Nascar fans.  We love that # 6 Mark Martin. We will be very sad to see him retire after the 2005 season.
