The best heritage a pioneer can leave future generations is a simple story of
his life of hardships endured, of dangers passed and final victory over
wilderness and desert plains.

I guess I was fascinated to be born at the right time in the right place to
be able to take part in the last of the great roundups of the west with horses
and cattle on the open range. Even though I was only a kid in grade school at
the time, I still had the chance to ride on the big horse roundups in eastern
Montana and deliver the last of wild horses and train drive them to the CBC
Ranch south of Wolf Point, Montana. It was there horses were sold and shipped to
canneries for dog food made from the horse meat. It was canned and sold all over
the USA. Those roundups were the highlight of my life back then.
