Am I just being required to check an additional mailbox (Message Center) in order to get all my e-mail now?
No, but we suggest that you check your Message Center until you get emailGUARD trained to recognize your approved senders. Initially, the emailGUARD filters may trap a few legitimate e-mails that you will need to approve and deliver to your Inbox manually. However, you will only be required to approve a sender one time. Once you have approved any questionable senders, emailGUARD will automatically forward future messages from those addresses to your Inbox. Most users find that after this initial training period, they seldom need to return to their Message Center. For the user's convenience, emailGUARD will send an e-mail once a week as a reminder if any new messages are being held in the Message Center.
Am I required to delete the junk e-mails and viruses that are held in my quarantine (Message Center) or will they be deleted automatically?
No, you don't have to remove the quarantined messages. These messages will be automatically deleted from the server after 14 days. It is a good idea to keep your Message Center cleaned out so it will be easier to spot any legitimate messages that may need to be delivered to your Inbox.
How do I make sure emailGUARD doesn't block e-mail from my friends or family?
Login to your emailGUARD account and click on Junk Email Settings. In the approved senders box, type the email address or domain that you want to approve. Click on Save to List to add the sender to your approved list.
Example: If you receive emails from several addresses @somedomain.com you could add their addresses to the approved senders list individually, or simply make a single entry for somedomain.com in the list. Now all the messages that come from somedomain.com will be automatically sent to your Inbox, eliminating the possibility for legitimate emails from that domain being caught by the filter.
Can I set emailGUARD to filter my other Mid-Rivers email addresses?
Yes, you can add your additional mailboxes as alternate addresses to be filtered by a single emailGUARD account instead of having separate Message Centers for each address. You may need to contact the Mid-Rivers Internet Department before changing this setting on your account. Login to emailGUARD and click on Account Settings (upper right-hand corner of the page) and then click on Alternate Address. You will be provided with a box to type the Mid-Rivers email address that you want to have filtered. Click on Submit to add the mailbox to your emailGUARD account. A confirmation email will be sent to the address you entered, and the owner of that address must click on the confirmation link in the email to authorize emailGUARD to filter email for that address. All messages quarantined for the secondary address will be held in the main account's Message Center.
Can I set emailGUARD to filter other email addresses such as my Hotmail or Yahoo mail?

Can I turn off the virus filtering for my Mid-Rivers e-mail?
No, all e-mail passing through the Mid-Rivers mail servers will be scanned for viruses. EmailGUARD uses a continuously updated virus scanning engine to protect your computer from email viruses. EmailGUARD will notify you with an email each time a message containing a virus is quarantined. If you would like this notification setting changed to only once per day, please send a request to: mrtc@midrivers.com
Please keep in mind that e-mails are not the only source for viruses. In addition to having emailGUARD's virus protection, we strongly advise that you have anti-virus software installed on your computer and update its virus definitions on a regular basis. Viruses can also be delivered to your PC via downloaded Internet files, portable storage devices such as floppy disks, network shares, etc.
How do I block a specific e-mail sender or even messages from an entire domain?
Login to your emailGUARD account and click on Junk Email Settings. In the blocked senders box, type the email address or domain that you want to block. Click on Save to List to add the sender to your blocked senders list.
Example: If you receive lots of e-mails from various addresses @somedomain.com you could add the addresses to the blocked senders list individually, or simply make one entry for somedomain.com in the list. Now all the messages that come from somedomain.com will be automatically sent to your quarantine (message center), eliminating the possibility for any of these unwanted e-mails being delivered to your Inbox.
How do I change my emailGUARD password?
Login to your emailGUARD account and click on Account Settings (upper right-hand corner of the page). You will find an option to change your account password. If you need additional help with changing your password, please contact our technical assistance center.
How long will emailGUARD keep my quarantined e-mail before deleting it?
You have 14 days from the time a message is quarantined to preview and/or deliver a message to your Inbox. After 2 weeks, the message is automatically deleted from the emailGUARD server to conserve disk space.
I accidentally removed a quarantined message that I need! How can I get that message back?
Login to your emailGUARD account and click on the Removed link at the top of the Message Center screen. This will display any emails that you have marked for removal, and provided that the message is less than 2 weeks old, you will be able to restore the message. Click on the title of the desired message to preview it. To have the message delivered to your Inbox, click on the Deliver button.
I received a message telling me that emailGUARD detected a virus, now what should I do?
EmailGUARD will send a notification message whenever a message containing a virus has been quarantined. Does this mean you have a virus on your computer? Not necessarily, but it is recommended that you update your anti-virus software and run a full system scan on your PC. If the quarantined e-mail is an Undeliverable Message from our mail server, that is a fairly strong indication that your computer has been infected with a virus and it is propagating that virus to other users without your knowledge. Please contact our technical assistance center for additional help.
I subscribe to a mailing list or newsgroup and those messages are being blocked! What can I do?
The emailGUARD filters are designed to stop mass-mailing spammers from flooding your Inbox with special offers, etc. In doing so, the filters may block messages that you actually want to receive. To approve a mailing list, login to your emailGUARD account and click on Junk Email Settings. In the Sender Lists section, click on the Yes button next to newsgroup. On the following screen, you will be given an input box where you can specify the sending domain as approved. Click on Save to List to add the domain to the approved mailing list.
Is there a way to turn off the virus notification messages?
No, emailGUARD will notify you each time a message containing a virus has been quarantined.
Is there an easy way to delete all the messages in my quarantine (message center) at once?
Yes, login to your emailGUARD account and scroll to the bottom of the Message Center page. Click on link on the right-hand side of the page that says "Remove All Messages" to move all the Suspicious Junk Email to the Trash. Please note that all messages are automatically deleted from the server after 14 days, so it is not required that you clean out your quarantined items.
Why doesn't my Mid-Rivers Internet password work when I try logging into emailGUARD?
Your emailGUARD account password is usually different from your Mid-Rivers e-mail and/or dial-up access passwords. Your username for emailGUARD is your full e-mail address (ex. username@midrivers.com). Upon activation of your account, a temporary password is generated and sent to your Mid-Rivers email address. You will be required to change that password the first time you login to your Message Center. If you have lost your emailGUARD password, or need additional assistance setting up access to your emailGUARD account, please contact our technical assistance center.
