Current Grant & Loan Opportunities

Town Pump Inc. Giving Program and the Town Pump Charitable Foundation provides grants to 501 (c) (3) non-profit and government entities for projects that address community needs in Montana. Growth Through Agriculture Program
The Montana Department of Agriculture offers the Growth Through Agriculture (GTA) grant and loan program. The purpose of the program is to "diversify Montana's agricultural industry through development of new agricultural products and processes." Funding may be through a grant or loan. The deadlines for submission are January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31 of each year. Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation
The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation is the major philanthropic organization for the Washington Companies and the Washington family. A portion of the profits of the Washington Companies is the source of the Foundation's endowment, currently in excess of $17 million.  The Foundation's mission is to better the human condition by supporting programs and services that give people the tools to enhance the quality of their lives and, ultimately, to benefit society as a whole.  Go to the Foundation's web site at the link above to access information on past grant recipients and how to apply.

First Responder Institute Grants for Fire Departments
First Responder Institute, an organization whose mission is to provide assistance to emergency personnel to help them make their communities safe, is accepting grant applications for the purchase of life-saving equipment. Emergency response organizations, including fire departments and law enforcement, are eligible to apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.  Click the link above to learn more and access the online application.

PPL Montana
PPL Montana's Community Fund provides grants to "improve the quality of education, enhance the environment and bring jobs and new tax revenues to Montana through improved economic development." Eligible entities include community or environmental organizations with a 501(c)(3) status, schools, school districts, community colleges or universities." Grants range from $1,000 to $10,000. Priority is given to entities that can provide matching funds. Check out the web links above for program details and start planning for these two community development opportunities.

Treasure State Endowment Program (TSEP)
A state-funded program created in 1992 to assist local governments solve health and safety problems and assist with the financing of public facilities projects. Examples of relevant projects include "constructing or upgrading drinking water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, sanitary or storm sewer systems, solid waste disposal and separation systems, and bridges." Jerry Metcalf Foundation 
Jerry Metcalf Foundation offers grants to entities for specific projects, buildings, assets and endowments, operation and administration costs, and matching funds. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $50,000. This foundation requires a pre-application to be post-marked by March 15. If invited, full applications are due May 15. Visit the link above for application process and guideliness.

Libri Foundation
This nationwide non-profit organization donates new, quality hardcover children's books to small, rural public libraries in the U.S. through its Books for Children Program.  Area recipients to date include the Ekalaka Public Library in the 2003-2004 grant round.  Grants awarded to libraries serving a population under 10,000.  The Foundation accepts applications three times per year when postmarked prior to January 15, April 15, and August 15.  Visit the web site above to apply.

M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust
The Trust's mission is to enrich the quality of life in the Pacific Northwest, including Montana, by providing grants to organizations that seek to strengthen the region's educational and cultural base in creative and sustainable ways.  The three main areas of giving include education, arts and culture, and health and human services. The Trust also gives Scientific Research Grants and Formal Program Grants in Science. Rural Economic Development Loans and Grants (REDLG)
Zero-interest pass-through loan program intended to serve as gap financing for non-profit or private business job creation and economic development projects in rural areas.  Visit the link above for more information and application instructions.
