2008 Mid-Rivers Higher Education Scholarship
Mid-Rivers will be awarding twelve $500 Mid-Rivers Higher Education Scholarships for year 2008 to students who reside (or whose parents reside) within Mid-Rivers’ service area and who are either graduating high school seniors entering the freshman year of a college, university or technical school in the fall of 2008, or a current college, university, or technical school undergraduate who is continuing education in the fall of 2008.
The application form is below.
The application deadline is April 15, 2008. Selection will be determined by April 30, 2008. Eligibility requirements include:
- The applicant must be either a graduating high school senior entering his or her freshman year of a college, university or technical school, or a current college, university, or technical school undergraduate. Graduate students and previous scholarship winners are ineligible.
- The applicant, or his or her parents or legal guardian, must be a member of Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative, Inc.
- Student must complete the scholarship application and its requirements.
Scholarship application forms are available at any Mid-Rivers Service Center, from area counselors or below. The completed form, a detailed statement of the applicant’s goals, two letters of recommendation from current teachers, one character reference letter, a copy of the most recent transcripts, complete with ACT or SAT test score results, must be included and submitted to Mid-Rivers Higher Education Scholarship, P.O. Box 280, Circle MT 59215 and postmarked no later than April 15, 2008.
The applications will be judged based on the following criteria:
- 30% – Scholastic Aptitude
- 40% – School and Community Activities
- 30% – Personal Statement
Scholarship certificates announcing the awards will be presented to recipients in May in time for recognition during graduation or school award ceremonies (if applicable).
Scholarship funds will not be dispersed until proof of enrollment in the college, university or technical school of the scholarship recipient is received by Mid-Rivers. Once proof of enrollment is received, payment will be made by a joint check to the recipient and the school. Scholarships must be claimed by Dec. 31, 2008, or the money will be forfeited.
